Does The Sun Affect Your Hair?

beware – it’s not just your skin you need to protect – your hair needs protecting too!

We may not get a lot of it but the sun can do significant damage. If your hair is exposed to the sun for long periods, ultra violet rays can damage the cuticle layer of your hair which can result in discoloured and dry frizzy hair – yuck!

So, you have two options – do nothing and be faced with trying to restore your colour and condition after the event – a choice which involves unnecessary expense, OR simply protect your hair as you would your skin.

At V&V we use a heat and UV rays protection spray to combat the effects of the sun. It’s called Electric Prep Spray - sun cream for your hair - Simples - and a lot cheaper than option 1!

Does the sun effect hair growth?

There is no clear answer to this question yet but my answer is ‘possibly’. Our bodies produce Vitamin D in direct sunlight. Vitamin D is known to keep our bones and skin healthy and has recently been linked with improving hair growth.

So, if we add extra Vitamin D from our time in the sun to a healthy diet and exercise then our hair is going to look and feel better - and if your hair feels great then you feel great. But don’t forget the sun cream for skin and hair!

If at any point have problems regarding your hairs condition, colour or style then just give a call, email or snail mail letter - we will be very happy to chat about your concerns.
