….to fringe or not to fringe…

… that is the question – at least for this blog. A number of clients have been asking about Fringes - must be the Winkleman effect and nothing wrong with that. Claudia sports a lustrous, almost wondrous, fringe which, as worn by her, is quite striking.

So the most asked question is “Will it suit me!”

Well, for a change, it’s nice to get a straight answer – yes! However (yep – there’s always a ‘however’) a fringe can suit just about anyone but it must be executed expertly. Yes and that means not trying to do it yourself – go on – step away from the scissors!

One of the keys to a successful fringe is matching the shape of your face to the right type of fringe. So – to illustrate, consider these face shapes and the most appropriate fringes to compliment them:

  • narrow face – wide

  • wide face – narrow

  • round face – sweeping side

  • oval face – super blunt and full

  • heart shaped face – super textured and choppy

  • square face – soft, layered and sweeping

Get the idea? Fringes really can work for everyone but it has to be done right. Even curly hair can carry a fringe well but this requires even greater expertise because you really have to understand the curl pattern to bring it off well.

Hair thickness is another thing to consider. If you have a jump (cows lick) a heavy fringe will make it a lot more controllable and a soft fringe is great if you want to change a look but it can also be left down if you tie your hair up.

So if you’re thinking about a fringe – by all means go for it but do check with your favourite expert first!
